Review: Checkmate: This Is Effortless by Kennedy Fox

5 Stars!

Oh my goodness! Kennedy Fox has done it again!! For every girl has wanted Courtney as a best friend and has crushed on Drew since the beginning of This is War, this is the perfect conclusion to their story. It is intense! It is a roller coaster of emotions and laughs. Mia F***ing Montgomery makes some epic appearances and ratchets the drama to epic proportions. How Courtney and Drew handle the situation with Mia and just how they treat each other in general is the ultimate relationship goals!

I love how every book in this series flows perfectly into the next. Kennedy Fox got us hooked on the idea of Courtney and Drew in This is War and teased us with it in This is Love. Now that Courtney and Drew have their happily ever after, very well earned might I add, and we’ve been sufficiently teased with the idea of Logan and Kayla I cannot wait for This is Dangerous! Bring it on Kennedy Fox!

Review: Truly, Madly, Whiskey by Melissa Foster

4 Stars!

I enjoyed this book. It was short and sweet. The characters love intensely. It seems like the story happens fast, but the reader comes into the story after months of courting. I love Bear with the children, its incredibly sweet. And who doesn’t love a big tough man who fawns all over a tiny kitten. Crystal is an interesting character. Her personal and family situation makes for a very compelling story. I felt parts of the story were too short or glossed over. I want more. I felt the ending came to a close too quickly. I hope this is not the end, I want to get to know the rest of the family more.

Review: Royally Relinquished: A Modern Day Fairy Tale by Hayley Faiman

4 Stars!

This is a sweet, sexy story of what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas. Caitriona and Henrick are fiercely passionate within each others arms, but once they step away the world crashes in. This story follows them as they navigate their relationship, battling the outside world and themselves to give their relationship a chance. Caitriona is strong and independent, but she still gets swept up in everything that is Henrick. Henrick is the family screw up and he loves it, until its time to own up to it. Both characters do a bit of growing up in this story and readers will get annoyed with them both. But their story is sweet (and steamy) and they fight just to have a chance. What’s not to love about that?

!!Maybe Spoiler-ish Ahead!!

I felt the ending was a bit rushed. I would like to see more of their story. I felt I was a bit cheated out of their happily ever after. What happened to Caitriona’s mother? There was a lot of hype around her potential to cause problems, then nothing! I’d also like to see more of Madison and James, they seem cute.

Review: The Last Call by R.B. Hilliard

5 Stars!

I have truly loved this series and this book is the perfect wrap up for anyone who has loved the books and the characters. The Last Call fills in all the holes in the previous books in the series. If you’ve read the previous books and wondered what was up with Ellie and Max or what was up Gage’s butt, read this book. It explains it all, but it doesn’t just explain the gaps in the story line, it immerses the reader back into the lives of all the characters in the series. It’s an emotional ride. The reader feels sadness, hope, annoyance, frustration, and many other emotions as the characters try to navigate all that has happened to them. Their struggles are relatable and its told in such a way that even when the reader is frustrated by the character, they’re still rooting for them to pull their heads out of their ass and figure their shit out.

Review: GRIP by Kennedy Ryan

5 Stars!

To start, I have to say thank you to Kennedy Ryan for writing this story. GRIP is so many things, it touches on so many things. Things that are so relevant to the world we are currently living in. This story is real, above all else, it’s real. Told from both Bristol and Grip’s perspective it not just touches on, but shines a light on the difference in their upbringings and their mindsets as they navigate their lives and their relationship. And readers can relate; maybe not to all things, but at least to some. Whether its being distant with your parents or extremely close, growing up with money or without, never stepping outside of your social circle or having a variety of friends, never receiving parental approval or always having it, but both vying for their support in all things. Bristol and Grip face many of the same challenges and struggles, but in different ways and Kennedy Ryan does a beautiful job of writing it. This story also takes ownership of personal decisions and fears, how they hurt the ones we love and, ultimately, may cost us what we love. Whether its being afraid of turning into your mother or afraid of disappointing your mother, it’s real life.

While this book is giving the reader all of this in its wonderfully written words, its also touching not just on an interracial couple and the challenges they face, but on racial issues happening right now in the U.S. The art of which Kennedy Ryan writes, its not preaching or taking sides or pointing fingers. First, this book is a love story about two adults who make mistakes and get controlled by fear and anger, but still fight to come out the other side with the person they love. And they just happen to be different races. Second, this book is a narrative of conversations that need to and should be happening to effect change. Real change. With respect, understanding and recognizing the differences and problems Bristol and Grip are able to talk, really talk and meet in the middle.

Overall, I think this is a book for everyone. I’m very honored to have been asked to read an ARC and I was very moved by the story. It has made me think a bit differently and become a bit more open minded. It also has one of my favorite lines of a man describing his attraction to a woman – “I don’t care what color a girl is. I like the color of smart, the shade of funny, and sexy is my favorite hue.” Again, thank you.

Review: FLOW by Kennedy Ryan

5 Stars!

This is the best teaser novella I think I’ve ever read. It really does give the reader a taste of exactly what GRIP will bring them. The book introduces Grip, Bristol and Rhyson, explaining the previous relationships and setting up for the new. FLOW keeps it light, not overwhelming the reader with the intensity GRIP brings. Its just the perfect amount of well written tease to make the reader desperate for GRIP.
